I am constantly being asked what I use and what will help with your Pilates, Running or general well-being so here are my Top 5 favourites.
So in no particular order apart from number one as those who know me know how much I love my foam roller, here are my favourites and if you are interested I have included their Amazon links purely for convenience but you can get these from other retailers, just click on the product and it will take you straight through.
1. Foam Roller
I LOVE this foam roller, not only is it a great price but also very good quality. I use this for foam rolling my legs, back arms everything, and if you lie on it with your head back and bum on it with knees bent feet on the floor and arms out to the side with palms facing up it's a great chest opener/stretch. I have written a previous blog post on Why I think Foam Rollers are Great , If you would like to read it click on the link. You can also use this foam roller for your Pilates Practice too, again lie on it with the head, back and bum on it and lift one leg up into table top and if steady bring them both up and you will feel that core working.
2. Resistance Loop Bands.
This is a great little pack as it has 4 different strengths so can be used for arms legs to stretch with and you can build the resistance up too as you get stronger.
3. Peanut Spiky Massage Roller.
This funny looking thing is my go-to tool for when I have aches in my neck or my upper back right between my shoulder blades. It perfectly shaped so that it puts no pressure on the spine a big no no area, also it's softer so doesn't apply too much pressure. It can also be used on the calves and I massage my feet with it, you will be surprised with how much tension you carry in your feet.
4. Trigger Ball
Trigger Balls are amazing for releasing tension in the muscles, we all know that feeling when you have a knot that you just can't get too this is when the trigger ball comes in handy, Whats great about this pack is it has 3 different levels of hardness so that you can ease yourself in.
5. Acupressure Mat.
Now this may look a bit crazy and it is but I love this. 5-10mins lying on this and you will feel so relaxed and amazing. You can also purchase the head pillow too separately or other brands include it. Pure indulgence!
I'll let Yogi-Bare explain the benefits.
- The Yogi Bare Acupressure Mat works in a similar way to the ancient art of acupuncture, stimulating energy, vitality and a sense of well-being in the body.
- The gentle, painless pressure of the mat allows the body to relax and release endorphins, creating pranic flow or life force within the body
- When using the mat you will feel a sense of elation inviting happiness, energy and calm into your day.
A little warning ease yourself, the first time I did this I lay on a thin towel and then just a t-shirt and then when I got used to it I did bare skin.
